Opting OUT

Individual Opt Out

YOU MUST OPT OUT EACH SEPTEMBER, SUBSEQUENT SEMESTERS (WINTER & SPRING) WILL CARRY OVER THAT LIST PER ACADEMIC YEAR. OPT OUT'S WILL OPEN ON SEPTEMBER 1ST.

We are not longer accepting any paper opt-out forms as we have now transitioned to a streamlined online system.

Online Opt-out Steps: WE NO LONGER ACCEPT PAPER OPT OUT FORMS, ONLINE OPT OUT ONLY!

  1. In order to opt out click here.

  2. From the drop-down menu select “Graduate Students’ Union of Memorial University of Newfoundland (GSU)”.  PLEASE SELECT GRADUATE STUDENT UNION.  Incorrectly selecting the MUNSU Health and Dental Plan will not opt you out of the GSU Health and Dental plan and your charges will remain on your account.

  3. Select “Opt-out” and follow through the steps. (You will be asked for your information, email, and alternative coverage information).

  4. You will receive a confirmation code on the screen.                                                                                                                This confirmation IS NOT AN APPROVAL IT IS ONLY LETTING YOU KNOW THAT THE INFORMATION HAS BEEN RECEIVED.

  5. You will also receive a confirmation code to the email you provided.

  6. IN ORDER TO OPT OUT YOU MUST HAVE ALTERNATIVE INSURANCE. PLEASE NOTE THAT MCP IS NOT AN ACCEPTED FORM OF ALTERNATIVE INSURANCE.

Eligibility: You must be a full-time registered MUN graduate student to be eligible for the GSU Health and Dental Plan(s). All full time graduate students (including international students that have opted out of the ISA Foreign Health insurance) are automatically added to the GSU Health and Dental Plan(s) UNLESS they submit an Opt OUT request before the Opt OUT deadline in a given semester. AS OUR PLAN IS SEMESTER BASED, IF YOU HAVE USED THE PLAN AFTER THE FIRST DAY OF THE SEMESTER YOUR FEES WILL NOT BE REVERSED!!!
