THE FAMILY OPT IN PERIOD IS CLOSED

To extended coverage to your family members you need to fill the online Family Opt-In form application and make payment. Family coverage is renewed every September for the full academic year ONLINE ONLY. YOU MUST RENEW COVERAGE EVERY SEPTEMBER.

THE FAMILY COVERAGE PLAN IS CHARGED FOR THE FULL YEAR. AFTER SEPTEMBER FAMILY ADD-ON'S WILL ONLY BE PERMITTED FOR NEW STUDENTS STARTING IN THAT PARTICULAR TERM OR IF THERE IS A NEW DEPENDENT OR A LIFE CHANGING EVENT. REGARDLESS OF ENROLLMENT DATE ALL FAMILY PLANS ARE CHARGED BASED ON THE FULL YEAR.

Family coverage will only be extended to:

  • Full-time ACTIVE Graduate Students and their dependents.

After September...

  • NEW Full-time ACTIVE Graduate Students and their dependents.

  • Current ACTIVE Full-time Graduate Students with a new dependent (Must pay for full year)

  • Current ACTIVE Full-time Graduate Students who have had a change in their family situation (Must pay for full year)

NOTE TO GRADUATING STUDENTS: If you graduate at anytime during your Family coverage term (September to August) you may be eligible for a refund of the family coverage fees in relation to whatever term(s) you are no longer an active student. This is only possible if there are no claims on the account at anytime during the active year. As it is an insurance policy and paid directly to Green Shield, once a claim has been made from the first day of active coverage you will not be eligible for any refund.

In order to extend your coverage to your family members after the Fall Family Opt In you need to contact health@gsumun.ca in order to explain your circumstances.

A few things to remember...

1 The student’s (i.e. primary plan member) portion of the premium(s) for the selected coverage(s) is charged directly to your MUN student account on a semester basis.

2 The dependents’ portion the premium(s) for the selected coverage(s) is in addition to the fees paid by the primary plan member each semester. These amounts are paid annually to the Graduate Students’ Union in the month of September.

In order to be enroll into the Health and/or Dental plan(s) you need to be a registered full-time graduate student. Part-time students are not eligible to be part of the plan.

You and your dependents need to be covered by a provincial medical plan (e.g. MCP, OHIP) in order to enroll into the GSU Health plan.
