From One Island to Another – Strength in Unity
Two days of concerts to aid the victims of the earthquake in Haiti
St. John’s – In solidarity with the Haitian people, several St. John’s based student and community organizations will be hosting a benefit concert to raise money for the earthquake relief efforts in Haiti. The concert will feature a variety of local musicians and bands.
Where: Breezeway Bar (Memorial University)
Date: Friday, January 22, 2010
Time: All day/night event starting at 3:00 p.m.
Admission: 5$ donation for students and $10 for the general public
All proceeds will be donated to the Humanitarian Coalition Fund. The Fund is a federally registered fund administered by Oxfam Canada, Oxfam Quebec, Save the Children Canada, and Care Canada. Visit www.thehumanitariancoalition.ca for more information.
As part of the event, a large group of student volunteers will also be soliciting donations for the relief effort from students, faculty and staff of the university throughout the campus all day Friday.
This event is organized by the Canadian Federation of Students, Memorial University of Newfoundland Students’ Union, The Graduate Students’ Union, Oxfam, MUN HOPE, MUN Oxfam, and others.
The Friday evening concert at the Breezeway will be followed by an event at the Centre des Grands-Vents from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Saturday organized by the Association communautaire francophone of St. John's along with the Conseil scolaire francophone, the Fédération des francophones and the Réseau culturel francophone de Terre-Neuve-et-Labrador.
