Hello fellow graduate Students!

On behalf of myself and the rest of the GSU executive I would like to welcome you to Memorial University for the 2011-2012 year! It is with great pleasure that I serve you as your VP Internal for the year.

Being a graduate student there is so much emphasis on your academics that it is hard to have a well balanced social life. This is where I come in! With my experience from being VP Internal last year, my goal is to give all graduate students the opportunity and accessibility of meeting fellow grads from all different disciplines. With the help of a social events committee, I will do my best to make every event as enjoyable and memorable as possible.

This year we will once again kick-off with GradFest. GradFest is a social orientation that allows new and old graduate student to interact with each other and build friendships through a week long string of social activities and events. The events will also give students the opportunity to see some of the great attractions and venues St. John’s has to offer. A number of events during GradFest and also throughout the year will be held at Bitters pub, a pub owned and operated by the GSU. Bitters has been known to be the cornerstone of graduate interaction. One of the most popular events held at Bitters is Thursday night trivia which is hosted by graduate students each week. Over the past few years, trivia has become increasingly popular, sometimes finding it hard to find a seat! Other events that are on the agenda for the upcoming year are: Winterfest, East Coast Camping Trip, Marble Mountain Ski Trip, Karaoke Nights, Themed Dance Parties, End of Term Bash, GSU Awards Ceremony, and much more!

I strongly suggest all to get involved in the social events that the GSU put forward. A “work hard, play hard” attitude could very well be the recipe for a very enjoyable year at Memorial University!
