I, and everyone involved with the Graduate Students’ Union, would like to wish you a warm welcome to the 2009- 2010 academic year here at Memorial University. My name is Erin Stevens and it is an honor to represent you as Vice President Communications and Research (VP C&R).

As the VP C&R, I am responsible for representing the interests and concerns of the GSU to the university administration, media, government agencies, other MUN organizations, and various outside agencies. My roles include involvement in outreach and advocacy as well as liaising with other student unions through the Canadian Federation of Students (CFS). I am also responsible for the record keeping of the GSU, the www.gsumun.ca  website, the GSU email list-serve, and organization of the Aldrich Conference held in the winter term.

All of us at the GSU are here to assist you throughout your studies at MUN. We have a multitude of outlets and are here to listen and provide support for any concerns you may have in any aspect of your academic life here at MUN. Some current campus issues that we are working on are graduate student office and residential space, financial assistance, tuition and continuance fees, adequate pay (for TA, RA, GA, and instructors), and accessibility for individuals with disabilities. I believe strongly in getting the graduate student voice heard and will work with the executives/councilors of the GSU and university to address these issues.

The GSU is yours! You and only you have the ability to make your graduate experience exciting and something to remember always. I believe that all graduate students should get involved in the GSU because it is only as good as those that are involved. I ask all of you to lend your enthusiasm, experience, knowledge, and personalities to the GSU. Come to as many of the great social events that you can, participate on one of many committees, or become an advocate for something you feel strongly about.
