VP Academic

AcademicName: Jason Robinson

Position: VP Academic

Hello graduate students!

As your VP Academic for the 2011-2012 academic year I’d like to extend my warmest welcome to new graduate students; and hope that returning students are finding their graduate experience to be challenging and enriching. Memorial offers a high-impact research environment that is nestled in a small-town setting. This provides individuals with both a voice and an opportunity to affect the very institution that sustains them. I encourage you to embrace these opportunities whether through GSU involvement or via other opportunities within your community.

Chiefly, my role as VP Academic is to advocate for all graduate students. I aim to ensure that you’re all working in an environment that is both stimulating and fair. Students should come to me if they’re having program issues, such as academic disputes and/or appeals.  Furthermore, I’m here to help you Get Involved! There is something for everyone and GSU involvement is a great way to learn about the structures of the university, network and build your CV.

My goals for this year are to maintain a high level of student representation on university boards, committees, and faculties; and to enhance departmental and cultural diversity within these groups. Moreover, I want to grow student interest in academically focused workshops that are held throughout the academic year.

As the VP Academic my fingers must be on the pulse of graduate students’ academic needs.  I encourage you to approach me at any time to talk about your program or just to say “Hi”. I’ll be easy to find through regular office hours, GSU events, Bitters and email.

I wish you the utmost success in the coming academic year!

Cheers,

Jason Robinson
