GSU Elections: Call For Nominations!
Attention Graduate Students!
It's that time of year again: election time! This is the first call for nominations for the upcoming GSU election. I strongly encourage you to consider running for a position, the GSU is an important functioning body within the University and as a graduate student at MUN you should be concerned with its operations.
How To Get Started:
Pick up your nomination form from the GSU general office in Feild Hall between the office hours of 10am and 2pm Monday-Friday. Remember that nominations close on Wednesday, March 17th at 4pm so you must have your completed form passed in by that date and time.
Step 2:
Forms require a total of twelve (12) signatures from fellow graduate students stating their support for your nomination. Campaigning for the election cannot begin until after nominations have closed and the candidates have met with the Chief Returning Officer and the Electoral Committee.
We have set this meeting for Wednesday, March 17th at 4:30pm in the GSU boardroom. Any candidate who cannot attend this meeting must contact me (CRO) to set up an alternative meeting time and cannot begin campaigning until they have done so.
What positions are available? Lots! Read on...
Executive positions such as President, VP Academic, Finance, Communications & Research and Internal are paid positions. The responsibilities of these positions vary, but combined the Executive Council ensures that our GSU runs smoothly and that our needs as graduate students are met. If you would like more detailed information on each of the positions please feel free to email me or check out the descriptions written by your current Executive on the GSU website (www.gsumun.ca).
There are also two (2) seats on the Facilities Management Board (FMB) as well as one (1) for the Senate. These positions are not paid, but the duties are significantly less than those of the Executive Directors. These positions fulfill an important function within the University structure. The FMB oversees all renovations and repairs to our GSU facilities, Feild Hall (including Bitters Restaurant & Pub).
It is thus important that we have graduate student representation on this Board. The Senate seat is an extremely important one as well, as it ensures graduate student representation at the highest level of University administration. Once again, if you would like more detailed information on these positions please email me.
