Elections for the 2014-2015 GSU Executive begin today, March 26 at 6pm and close March 28 at 4pm.

The Graduate Students’ Union will be holding its Annual General Meeting on Wednesday, March 26th at 6pm in the University Centre Landing. Candidates running in the 2014 GSU Election for the positions of President and VP Internal will outline their plans for the portfolio with the floor open to questions after.

Call for Nominations: GSU Executive Positions

The Graduate Students’ Union (GSU) is placing a call for nominations for the GSU executive positions of President, and Vice Presidents Academic, Communications and Research, Internal, and Finance, as well as a Senate Graduate Student Representative and Board of Regents Representative.

Nominations open Wednesday March 12, 2014 at 9am and close on Wednesday March 19, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. Students running for this position must be part or full time graduate students at Memorial University of Newfoundland. This position commences May 1, 2014 and runs until the end of April 2015.

The aim of the GSU and its elected executives is to:

1. Represent graduate students' interests to the University administration and other organizations, both on and off campus;

2. Provide graduate students with an educational, social and cultural organization;

3. Foster contact and communication among graduate students;

4. Establish and promote contact with similar bodies at other universities and;

5. Generate positive exposure for graduate students within and outside the university community.

Prospective candidates will require both a mover and a seconder for their nomination forms, as well as 10 other student nominators who are currently members of the GSU. Each mover / seconder / nominator will need to provide their names, student numbers, and signatures upon the form in order to verify validity. Completed nomination forms may be dropped off at the GSU Office (GH-2007) in Field Hall, Monday to Friday from 9:00am - 3:00pm. The nomination forms for GSU Executive positions can be found here and GSU's representative on the Board of Regent can be found here

Candidates who complete the process will be required to attend a meeting with the CRO following the close of the nomination (Wednesday March 19, 2014 at 3pm in the GSU boardroom) so that they may be informed as to the rules and regulations of the electoral process and the ensuing campaign.

Campaigning starts on Wednesday March 19, following the meeting with the CRO and runs until Wednesday March 26, 2014. Candidates will be invited to make a statement at the Board of Directors meeting, on Wednesday March 26, 2014 at 6:00 pm at GSU Boardroom. Voting begins at 6:00 pm on Wednesday March 26, 2014 and closes Friday March 28 at 4:00 pm.

GSU REFERENDUM QUESTION

Whereas GSU members will continue to have the option to opt in or out of the plans separately or together regardless of whether the plans premiums are considered separately or combined at renewal time;

Be it resolved that a referendum be called to pose the following yes/no question to the GSU general membership:

Do you authorize the Graduate Students? Union Board of Directors to revise the Health and Dental plan(s) total/combined premiums cost on an annual basis, if necessary, to a maximum increase equal to or less than the combined inflation of the standard national Health and Dental Care Industry?

Hello Graduate Students

The GSU is in the process of creating our 2014/15 Graduate Students’ Handbook and we would like your input. We would like you to participate in our annual Photo Contest.

Look for anything you find beautiful about Newfoundland or around campus. Grab your camera or Smartphone and take a few snapshots for a chance to win. The Picture could include you and a bunch of friends as long as the faces are not visible in the picture

What makes your photo so special? It could be the sunset, snowy day, rainy day, morning after a snowy day or rainy day. Anything, just be creative!
