VP Finance

Welcome Fellow Graduate Students to the 2014-2015 academic year at the Memorial University of Newfoundland.

The roles of the VP Finance include, but are not limited to: maintenance of all financial records; lead the Graduate Student Union's (GSU) budgeting process; oversee and regulate student funding requests; act as a liaison between the GSU and Financial & Administrative services; as well as chair both the Health & Dental, and Finance committee(s). A more holistic repertoire of responsibilities can be found in Section 3.7 of our Constitution, which is publicly available on the GSU website. Overall, I will do my best to ensure transparency, stringent organization, and timeliness of all reports, claims and any other items that may arise during the 2014-2015 Academic Year.

A few selected items in this mandate that will also be looked into in the coming year include:

a)      Surveying students on where they would like their fees allocated as well as a more encompassing university-wide campaign on where more services are needed from the university for graduate students.

b)      Constitutional revisions on finance related materials such as how audits are defined and assessed in the GSU as well as greater constitutional regulations for the Graduate Student Development Fund (GSDF).

c)      Continuing development and advertisement of the Professional Membership Grant (PMG) pilot project, along with reassessment of travel/conference funding and the Special Project Grant for clubs and societies (SPG).
